Sports Team is a band from the North London neighborhood of Harlesden that plays upbeat, guitar-based indie rock with a sharp but fun edge. Their taut sound is complemented with witty lyrics that praise flip phones, Ashton Kutcher and gaudy British beach resorts. Sports Team released a number of singles and EPs that perfectly captured their lean power and sense of humor after developing a reputation for outrageous live performances during their early years at Cambridge University. Six friends from Cambridge University, including the lead singer Alex Rice, the guitarists Robb Knaggs and Henry Young, the bassist Oli Dewdney, the pianist and multi-instrumentalist Ben Mack and the drummer Al Greenwood, formed the band Sports Team. The group, who name Pulp, Pavement, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and the Family Cat as influences, began performing at university venues after becoming disenchanted with the college's poor music scene, which was mostly dominated by cover bands.
