Despite receiving a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, she decided to abandon her education in order to begin her career in Atlanta. Having failed to find success, she went back to Memphis where she continued to write songs that focus on narrative and supported artists like Anthony Hamilton, Kem and Raheem DeVaughn. She started a "song a day" effort on social media and got a publishing agreement with Roc Nation as a result. She then moved to Los Angeles and collaborated on songs with artists like Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Lopez, Keyshia Cole, Common and Ariana Grande.
