Marcus King has been penning music, taking the stage and leading his own bands for close to ten years. He has been swapping licks with prominent admirers and instructors Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks ever since he was a teenager whenever their paths have crossed. Haynes, who was 19 at the time, was so impressed by King's artistic prodigality that he signed the band to his Evil Teen label, released Soul Insight as the group's debut album and produced its self-titled follow-up the following year.
Carolina Confessions, which was recorded at Nashville's renowned RCA Studio A and produced and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, John Prine, Jason Isbell), finds King and his five bandmates making a significant advancement.  All of the tracks were written by King, with the exception of the swaggering "How Long," which he co-wrote with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and seasoned songwriter Pat McLaughlin. The album's cover photo, which shows a dilapidated confessional with its screen door flung open and perched surreptitiously amid the kudzu, is a work of Southern Gothic mystery that balances salvation and damnation.
King was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, a Blue Ridge Mountain lad. He is a fourth-generation musician who can trace his musical ancestry to his great-grandfather, a fiddler and his grandfather, a guitarist. Since the 1970s, his father Marvin King, a singer and guitarist, has performed around the country both with other musicians and with his own band, Marvin King and Blue Revival..
