In June of 2021, Maple Glider issued her self-titled debut studio album. In the year 2020, Tori Zietsch stated that she had been brought up in a very strict religious household in the city of Lismore, in the state of New South Wales, from the time of her birth. She uprooted her life and relocated to Melbourne in order to immerse herself in the local music scene. Zietsch formed Seavera with his boyhood buddy and producer Daniel Pinkerton, combining elements of acoustic guitar and dramatic electronics in their sound. Late in 2017, Seavera was announced as the winner of the very first Pie School initiative. Following their victory, the band collaborated with the Pieater team to produce a song; however, the music was never released, and Seavera soon after disbanded. Zietsch uprooted his life and moved to Brighton, England, where he immediately started working on solo songs. Late in 2019, Zietsch relocated back to Melbourne, bringing with her a plethora of demos that she had created during her time spent in Brighton. She recruited Tom Iansek to record, mix, and produce the initial set of songs, and she was then signed to Pieater Records. Maple Glider made the announcement in April 2021 that her first studio album would be released at the same time as the third single titled "Swimming." The musician stated in a press release that the album draws its inspiration from different vignettes from her life as well as the different perspectives that she has gained from traveling..
