An American actress, comedian, and writer by the name of Natalie Palamides. In her backyard when still a small child, Palamides created humorous home films while living outside of Pittsburgh. She would perform in the school hallways. Early influences included Disney films and the action comedy series Austin Powers. Palamides was inspired by the European clown tradition she was introduced to by her theatrical professor while she was a student at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Palamides performed group improvisation with the Pig Iron Theatre Company while still in college. Palamides relocated to Los Angeles after graduation and joined the Upright Citizens Brigade with the goal of working at Saturday Night Live. She started doing voiceovers and commercials. She also took clown performance training at the Lyric Hyperion and the Idiot Workshop. Palamides' figures appeared in early sketches fantasizing about eating salad out of a man's pants, protesting to the manager of the sandwich store Eggslut as an anthropomorphic egg, and demanding to be objectified in all literal senses. She started creating longer-form performances out of improvisations in outlandish attire through her classes, variety shows, and open mic events. Nate - A One Man Show, a one-hour performance, was created by Palamides from her work with the Pig Iron Theatre Company using the overtly male character Nate. Themes of audience permission and sexual consent are explored through audience participation, such as Nate being wrestled. It was commissioned by Amy Poehler's production firm Paper Kite, received the Total Theatre Award at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and debuted on Netflix on December 1, 2020..
