Nadeem Din-Gabisi is an interdisciplinary artist, or a "creator" of poetry, film, music, painting, and other media in general, as he described it in a previous interview. His upbeat, speculative song "Exit" considers family and culture and asks what is the move and where we are traveling to physically and spiritually. It also reflects on family and culture. It was released in February and included in the prestigious Pitchfork Selects playlist. In 2020, he released the experimental short film MASS, which was motivated by the concept of "Black visual frequency." The music of Sierra Leone has been with him since infancy, and beyond, as he was born to Sierra Leonean parents in London. The Sabanoh song "Konko" was one of the first tracks he played after discovering his father's old records and buying a pretty worn-out belt drive hi-fi turntable. His quest to acquire records began when he discovered those antique recordings. Akie Deen, an uncle on his father's side who he has never met, produced several of the tracks he played. He also produced Bunny Mack's "Let Me Love You," which he purposefully left off the set so he could play some of Akie Deen's lesser-known creations. After his 2012 trip to Sierra Leone, his cousin acquired most of the S.E. Rogie 45s he played for him. He liked doing this, but it was harder than he thought it would be because many of his favorite Sierra Leonean records are not available on vinyl.
