It is obvious that Southampton's Creeper are operating on a completely different street than the majority of bands, who are content to huddle in the security of the middle of the road.
The Southampton Six are once more pushing hard against the limits of the art a "punk" band can be expected to produce with the release of their broad, ambitious and much anticipated debut album "ETERNITY, IN YOUR ARMS." "ETERNITY, IN YOUR ARMS," the third album in a trilogy largely based on J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, finds the band battling existential crises, failures and emotional devastation via the prism of an intricately woven narrative tapestry.
James Scythe, a private investigator who travels to the South Coast to disprove the mystery of "The Stranger" and exorcise his own demons, serves as the major human protagonist of "Eternity...," but he suddenly vanishes afterward. The band, which consists of guitarists Ian Miles and Oliver Burdett, bassist Sean Scott, drummer Dan Bratton and keyboardist/vocalist Hannah Greenwood, has created such a detailed, immersive experience for its fans in the two short years since their formation that they know the hotel Scythe stayed at in Southampton and the exact room number, as well as having access to a collection of podcasts by him and a network of websites he frequented before seemingly vanishing. However, Creeper's artistic innovations are much more extensive than just conceptual throughlines or showy punk posturing. Nowhere is this drive more strongly realized than on "Crickets," a song where keyboardist Hannah comes to the fore for a stark, stripped-back and utterly moving vocal performance. "Eternity..." is known for its rich orchestration, which includes everything from trumpets and strings to keys, spoken word poetry and close vocal harmonies.
It's nearly hard to deny the sincerity, honesty, literary talent, musical cunning and sky-scraping intent that run through these songs..
