The LaFontaines were founded by Kerr Okan on vocals, Iain Findlay and Darren McCaughey on guitars, Anna Smith on bass, Jamie Keenan on drums and Jamie Keenan in the nearby old industrial town of Motherwell. They developed a bombastic, hard-rocking, melodic, good-time sound that was topped by Okan's distinctive rapping in his native Scottish dialect, drawing inspiration from groups as varied as the Streets, the Beatles, the Beastie Boys and Nickelback.
Their debut performance was at the renowned King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, where they developed a local fan base before expanding it through national tours, several festival appearances and performances in the U.S. and Europe.
