Wye Oak emerged from Baltimore's underground scene to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic by fusing introspective lyricism with colorful polyrhythmic indie rock and pop. The name of the band, which consists of drummer/keyboardist Andy Stack and singer/guitarist Jenn Wasner, comes from a symbolic tree in Maryland that is 460 years old. Wasner and Stack, who formed the band Monarch, produced their debut album in a variety of Baltimore basements and flats before signing a record deal with the influential indie label Merge.
