Etta Marcus had reached the lowest point before the pandemic even began. She had recently been expelled from jazz school for prioritizing writing her own music over hanging out with the scene's purists. S ince she was in elementary school, Etta has known she wanted to pursue a career in music. It seemed sensible to achieve that goal by attending college. She was then confined to her home and was unable to get employment due to lockdown. She was instructed to start sharing the songs she had been collecting on SoundCloud by her parents, who are both secondary school teachers and instilled a love of music in Etta and her elder brother.
Then a lawyer contacted her and expressed interest in working with her. They connected her with a manager, who secured Etta a deal with label services provider Platoon. Etta's accomplished, dramatic songwriting is reminiscent of Phoebe Bridgers' piercing emotional contrasts, Lana Del Rey's classicist phase, Sharon Van Etten's Americana sweep. This year's View From the Bridge, her debut EP, presents powerful portrayals of self-destructive relationships, reckless burnouts filled with remorse and pushing loved ones away. Additionally, it marks her debut as a Polydor Records artist. Despite having many offers on the table, Etta preferred to make her debut on her own so she could navigate the system on her own. She is now enjoying the opportunity to realize her complete artistic vision.
