A year after his debut, singer-songwriter and electronic producer Chace quickly rose to prominence as the first mainland Chinese DJ to play Tomorrowland. Chace, who was up in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, started writing and producing songs in his early adolescent years after polishing his vocal skills with a cappella singing and gaining exposure to English-language media such as music, movies and television. He studied production and audio engineering at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music while attending school. He was raised in a musical family and played drums with his father, who performed electronic music. He left school early though in order to focus solely on music. David Guetta was a major early influence, but Chace was captivated after hearing Swedish House Mafia.
He was drawn to the vibrant nightlife in Shanghai and joined it which caught the attention of Dutch band Yellow Claw. Destination, Chace's debut EP, was released by them on the Barong Family label. Riding the popularity of the hit track "Stronger," Chace released "For a Day," a joint effort with Moksi, a different Dutch pair. Yade Lauren's "Something About You" was on Chace's second EP, Definition. The Connections EP debuted later that year.
