Ben Shirken's performance as Beshken gained notice and swiftly developed into a full-time job. In an effort to take back the project from his younger self, Ben finds himself. Ben collaborated with Venezuelan visual artist Pedro Bello to create Mimo, which is Spanish for "mime," an animated alter ego for his project. A cat-like jester, his activities are closely watched as he lives in a world of critical glances.
Ben's work has also been highlighted by publications like Boiler Room, Office Magazine, Coeval, Noisey and The Line of Best Fit. Ben's Los Angeles upbringing, which exposed him to the boundlessness of electronic music at a young age through jazz, hip-hop and do-it-yourself shows, had a significant influence on him. Pantomime follows the debut album Aisle of Palm by Beshken, who toured the country in support of the album with Com Truise, Photay and Altopalo.
Beshken has collaborated with animation studio Laser Days (Jack Wedge + Will Freudenheim) to produce original animation that is playable within video game engines while continuously recreating the live A/V presentation. Ben can be heard performing in a few New York-based ensembles, such as Nu Jazz, where he plays modular synths. Ben is constantly seeking for new creative opportunities. Ben continues to compose animated short films and is becoming more and more involved in the Brooklyn animation scene. Dice, a Spencer Sherk short film, was recently screened at BAM in Brooklyn.
