Although Honey Dijon was reared in Chicago, the birthplace of house music, she has lived in NYC for a considerable amount of time. She developed a liking for music after listening to her parents' soul and r&b songs at home, like many others in the movement. When they had parties in the family basement, she soon wanted to be the one to drop the needle on the record and the allure of club life quickly followed. Derrick Carter, who later on became a mentor for Honey, first connected while hanging out in these shops.
