Matti Antero Kristian Fagerholm, popularly known as Michael Monroe, is a Finnish rock musician born on June 17, 1962. His father was a famous Finnish radio personality and reporter. Monroe was first exposed to rock n' roll when he saw Black Sabbath's Paris performance on television. At the time, some of his favourite bands included Alice Cooper, The New York Dolls, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Little Richard.

In 1976, Monroe played in a band called Madness until 1979. During this time, he met guitarist Andy McCoy at a church in Töölö where their respective bands rehearsed. They played together briefly in a band called Bolin before Monroe moved on to play saxophone in Maukka Perusjätkä's band, where he met guitarist Nasty Suicide.

Monroe auditioned as a bassist for Pelle Miljoona Oy but was not chosen. Instead, they opted for Sami Yaffa. Monroe eventually rose to fame as the vocalist for the glam punk band Hanoi Rocks. He has since gone on to serve as the frontman for all-star side projects like Demolition 23 and Jerusalem Slim with Steve Stevens.

Some of Monroe's notable albums with Hanoi Rocks include "Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks" (1981), "Back to Mystery City" (1983), and "Two Steps from the Move" (1984). After Hanoi Rocks disbanded, Monroe released several solo albums such as "Not Fakin' It" (1989), "Peace of Mind" (1996), and "Blackout States" (2015).
