Charlton Brooker, born on March 3, 1971, is an accomplished English television presenter, writer, producer, and satirist. He is best known as the co-showrunner and creator of the popular sci-fi drama anthology series, Black Mirror. Throughout his career, Brooker has written for a variety of comedy series, including Brass Eye, The 11 O'Clock Show, and Nathan Barley.

Brooker's career began as a cartoonist, producing adverts for the second-hand video game retailer CeX. He then moved on to work as a journalist for PC Zone before transitioning into television. He has presented numerous shows, which offer critical insights into modern society and the media, including Screenwipe, Gameswipe, Newswipe, Weekly Wipe, and 10 O'Clock Live. Brooker also wrote the 2008 horror drama series, Dead Set. He has written social criticism pieces for The Guardian and is one of four creative directors of the production company Zeppotron.

Growing up in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Oxfordshire, Brooker was raised in a relaxed Quaker household. His parents were fans of the television sitcom Bewitched, which led them to name him Charlton after a character in one episode, and his sister Samantha after the series' main character. Brooker attended the Polytechnic of Central London, which later became the University of Westminster, to study for a BA in Media Studies. Although he did not graduate due to his dissertation topic being considered unacceptable, he has listed his comedic influences as Monty Python, The Young Ones, Blackadder, Chris Morris, and Vic Reeves.

Brooker's early work as a cartoonist included producing cartoon advertisements for CeX. He also worked in the video game department of Music and Video Exchange, a retailer in Notting Hill Gate, London.
