Shy One embodies the multiplicity and eclecticism of her DJ sets and productions day in and day out. Shy One was exposed to and affected by the entire range of sounds that her hometown of London has produced and fostered over the years after beginning her career as a DJ on pirate radio as a teenager. Grime and the larger family of local London club music provided Shy One the drive to pursue music as more than a hobby, as it did for many other young Londoners at the time. She swiftly transitioned from compulsively collecting white labels by some of her hometown production heroes to obsessively producing beats in Fruity Loops for a few of the emerging local MCs in Harrow, the North West London area where she grew up.
Since her first Scratcha releases, Shy One has developed as a musician and broadened her sound, embracing a wide range of musical genres, including hip-hop, jazz, house music and West London's own brokenbeat movement. All of these genres are well-represented on her various radio shows on stations like Balamii and NTS. Shy One's sound is still somewhat elusive and has its origins in London, but it also draws from a huge variety of musical cultures. Shy One has been busy recently with new releases on labels including Rhythm Section, Astral Black and Beats In Space in addition to DJing in clubs and on the radio.
