Nicholas Santonastasso was born with Oromandibular Limb Hypogenesis Syndrome, also known as Hanhart Syndrome. This syndrome can cause a variety of abnormalities in infants, including limb loss, heart and kidney issues and gastrointestinal problems. In every 500,000 births, this condition can occur. Its origin is uncertain, according to experts. There have only been 14 births in the country of children with this syndrome. Due to the malformed hearts, lungs and digestive systems that frequently occur in such infants on their 59th day of development, the majority of them die.
Since birth, Nicholas has been without legs and one arm is only a stump below the shoulder. Nicholas had suicidal thoughts because of his self-loathing. He was lucky enough to discover his "WHY" through wrestling in high school. To be able to wrestle, he had to have a portion of his arm amputated.
