Ten hours a day were spent by Tayo Oyekan busking in and around Reading, England, where he was raised. Now, the Scottish-Nigerian musician going by the stage name Tayo Sound is preparing to release his debut EP with support from both independent tastemakers and power players in the business.
Tayo is a true music nerd whose eclectic taste, do-it-yourself attitude and lyrical sensitivities drip with slick, casual elegance. His older brother's ringtone was the first time he heard a 3-minute long pop song because he was raised in a religious atmosphere where lengthy sets and musical interludes served as his introduction to music. Fascinated, Tayo committed himself to mastering the craft of songwriting and in the process, developed a passion for discovering new music.
The majority of Tayo's pals in England are into Indian pop, drill music and British electronic music, therefore he draws inspiration from them as well as his own love of alternative artists like Easy Life and Still Woozy. Tayo uses African drum beats and traditional Scottish folk tales in his creative process, weaving bits and pieces of his Scottish and Nigerian ancestry together.
