In Orange County, California, Chase Blohm gave birth to Contradash. He was a standout athlete at school, making the all-star squad in the fifth grade, but his home life frequently controlled his school schedule and his father was occasionally away in jail. Making music in his bedroom served as an outlet, a haven and a way to keep out of trouble. He won a contest to meet the rapper A$AP Ferg from Harlem. They stayed in touch and Blohm soon began working for him as a graphic designer.
He started doing cover art as his career expanded for Florida artists like Dominic Fike and Nate Traveler. Blohm traveled to meet several of these musicians after graduating from high school. He worked in a studio with Fike, who assisted him in honing his songwriting and production abilities. After releasing the song "yo-yo" on his own label, neverstopdash, Sean Lewow of Ourros and Dan Awad of Good Luck Have Fun quickly offered him a management contract. His musical alias, Contradash, was partially influenced by Canadian rapper Night Lovell's "Contraband.".
