Shinoda, who was reared in Agoura Hills and was born in Panorama City, Los Angeles, California, started the band Xero in 1996 with two of his high school pals, Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon. Later, Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell, and Mark Wakefield joined the group. In 1999, Chester Bennington joined Linkin Park and took up Wakefield's position as main vocalist.
