DevilDriver, a punishing groove and melodic death metal band from Santa Barbara was previously known as Deathride until a copyright issue compelled them to change their name. The band debuted but didn't really take off until the release of Last Kind Words, which heralded a string of high-charting albums like Pray for Villains, Winter Kills, Trust No One and the concept double album Dealing with Demons. The band was co-founded by Coal Chamber vocalist Dez Fafara, who is still the group's lone original member. The band has had multiple lineup changes, but they have managed to keep up a lean, loud and punishing sonic onslaught that has made them one of the most dependable heavy music distributors of the early 21st century.
Vocalist Dez Fafara teamed up with guitarists Evans Pitts and Jeffrey Kendrick, bassist Jon Miller and drummer John Boecklin to form DevilDriver, a somewhat more extreme band committed to the subsequent hardcore-meets-death-metal trends, after his Marilyn Manson/Korn-influenced nu-metal band Coal Chamber disbanded. Like Fafara's previous band, DevilDriver was signed to Roadrunner.
