Vince Herman Booking Agency Profile
The longstanding co-leader of the well-known and innovative jamgrass band Leftover Salmon spent around five months on the road, including a month and a half in Nashville. There, after 30 years of recording music, he ran into some old pals who helped him get started on the path that eventually produced his debut solo album, Enjoy the Ride.
The solo album is, in his words, "a little bit of a departure from anything I've done before." That is especially accurate of his method of approaching things. Donnie and Chris Davisson of the Davisson Brothers Band, the previously mentioned longtime buddies, were crucial in that regard. Herman met Erv Woolsey through the Davissons, who is arguably better known as George Strait's manager. A few months later, Herman was recording songs at the Cowboy Arms Hotel and Recording Spa, the famed Cowboy Jack Clement recording facility, with a talented band that Ferguson had put together to support him on the sessions. A studio band consisting of guitarist Pat McLaughlin, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott, bassist Dave Roe, drummer Pete Abbott, keyboardist Mike Rojas, guitarist and pedal steel player Russ Paul, fiddlers Jason Carter and Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, as well as Herman's son Silas on mandolin, tracked all the songs live over the course of three days. During that time, Tim O'Brien paid a studio visit to provide some vocal harmonies.
Herman didn't finish his solo album until over three decades later, but it was well worth the delay..
