Awkward Moments is a collaborative performance art project with sound at its center that use a variety of mediums to examine the psychological, philosophical and metaphysical ramifications of a lifespan and its perpetual recurrence.
Awkward Moments, which explores the relationship between sound, space and scenography, was inspired by the idea of "Expanded Cinema," a term coined by American experimental filmmaker Stan Vanderbeek to describe work that takes place both inside and outside of the gallery and includes live performance, projected pieces, video and a variety of media environments. The notion of Eternal Recurrence, which poses difficult issues about life's cyclical nature while never attempting to replicate itself, is also a key component of Awkward Moments. Its major themes include fluidity and transience. The goal of the project is to use live performance to convey the fleeting aspect of life.
An original voice in modern immersive performing art, Awkward Moments is represented. The live performances always have an experimental edge to them, but they are solidly grounded in the many different skills they have developed over the years, including music composition, scoring, storytelling, live performance, costume, videography and projection material.
Collaboration and inclusion are at the core of Awkward Moments, which was first established in London to raise money for refugees. The festival constantly aims to promote diversity by fusing various artistic mediums, musical genres, and aural techniques to provide a cohesive atmosphere..
