Rebecca Ann Alexander, a psychotherapist and author from the United States, is well known for her fortitude and accomplishments despite having Usher syndrome-related deafblindness. She is also known for her outstanding athletic achievements and her motivational narrative.

Rebecca Alexander is the daughter of attorney David Alexander and Terry Pink Alexander. She was raised in a Jewish household in Oakland, California. She has two brothers and sisters, including her identical twin Daniel and an older brother named Peter Alexander who works as an NBC News White House correspondent.

When Rebecca was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at the age of twelve, her battle with vision loss began. She continued to be active in school, playing soccer and taking part in the Maccabiah Games despite this difficulty. She nurtured her ties to her Jewish roots by attending Temple Sinai in Oakland. Her life, however, took an unexpected turn when, at the age of 18, she fell from a second-story window, needing significant physical therapy and delaying her aspirations for college. She began to have tinnitus about this time, and when she was twenty, she was diagnosed with Usher syndrome type III, which made her vision and hearing loss worse.

Rebecca pursued her schooling with tenacity, unaffected by her health. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and later obtained two master's degrees, one in social work and the other in public health, from Columbia University.
