Coale was raised in Healdton, Oklahoma, where she is originally from. Colton was born in 1992, and Chandler was born in 1996. She wed Dane Scott Coale in 1987, and they have two kids together. Coale had an early love for basketball and competed as a guard for the Lady Eagles team at Oklahoma Christian College, where she received a summa cum laude diploma in 1987.
Coale was appropriately admitted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 2007 in recognition of her extraordinary accomplishments and influence.
When Coale agreed to take the head coaching post at the University of Oklahoma, her coaching career officially began. It's amazing that she went straight from managing a Division I team to coaching a high school team. Despite taking over a struggling squad, Coale was able to return the Sooners to the NCAA Tournament in just four years.
When Coale guided the Sooners to the national championship game in 2002, she truly displayed her coaching acumen and captured the attention of the country. Despite narrowly falling short of unbeaten Connecticut, her team's achievement was a turning point for the program.
In the years that followed, notable accomplishments were made, such as the Sooners' undefeated Big 12 play season in 2005–2006, which made them only the second men's or women's Big 12 basketball team to accomplish this feat. Additionally, Coale led the Sooners to consecutive NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances in 2009 and 2010, just missing both times making it to the title game.
