They gained popularity with the moody hardcore The Artist in the Ambulance and ethereal Vheissu after releasing a pair of early punk albums. The hard rock influenced To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere and Palms, which both peaked at number one on the list, were two of Thrice's five straight independent Top Five releases. Their eleventh studio album, the sonically broad Horizons/East, shows that the trio continues to push the envelope with their methodology.
Dustin Kensrue on guitar/vocals, Teppei Teranishi on guitar, Eddie Breckenridge on bass and Riley Breckenridge on drums all knew one other from high school and the local skate park. The routine practice sessions, music contests and local concerts helped them develop their sound. Thrice had gathered enough material by that point to make a quality album.
