Dogstar, a grunge band, was founded in 1990 by vocalist/guitarist Bret Domrose, drummer Rob Mailhouse and bassist Keanu Reeves, who gained considerably more fame for his acting than for his bass playing. The band is more well-known for the musicians that have performed with them than for their actual albums. The group had sporadic success in the early 90's, but they landed a record deal with Zoo Records and released their first album, Our Little Visionary. While on tour around the United States and Europe, the band—or, more specifically, Reeves—made headlines.
The band's three members periodically reunited for jam sessions at Mailhouse's Silver Lake home in the years following the group's final performance. The band members were forced to spend more time in quarantine together as the virus spread. Within two and a half months, the band had created more than enough songs for a new album, which they engaged Dave Trumfio to produce. Eight-hour rehearsal days soon morphed into composing sessions.
Following an invitation from the festival's organizers, Dogstar performed in front of an audience for the first time in more than 20 years at the BottleRock music festival in Napa Valley. Songs from the band's first two albums and brand-new material from their upcoming third album were mixed together throughout the performance.
Two months later, the group unveiled "Everything Turns Around" as the lead song off their next album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees. In promotion of the record, the group also revealed a 25-date North American and Japanese tour, which kicked off in Hermosa Beach, California..
