Chad Ubovich of Meatbodies was a consistent MVP contender in the thriving West Coast rock scene of the 2010s. The Los Angeles native spent the most of the decade playing guitar solos in Mikal Cronin's backing band, providing Ty Segall and Charlie Moothart with Sabbath-like low end as the bassist for Fuzz and fronting his own Meatbodies. With 333, a destructive brew of guitar scuzz, raw acoustic rave-ups and primitive electronics, that lately dormant noise-damaged freak-rock group makes a comeback. That mixture of acids wasn't created by accident. Because the risk of burnout increases as a result of sustaining such a high output and after traveling in support of Meatbodies' second album, Alice, Ubovich ultimately reached its peak.
Fortunately, Ubovich was able to save himself, and once he sobered up, he started composing and recording quickly. Ubovich and drummer Dylan Fujioka, who make up Meatbodies, already had a new album recorded and ready for mixing. However, when COVID struck, the band, like so many other musicians, postponed its release while they survived the initial wave of the epidemic. Ubovich found a stash of demos that he and Fujioka had recorded in a bedroom during that period, and he particularly liked what he heard. It was deliriously chaotic in contrast to Meatbodies' customary full-band onslaught.
