With a collection of personal recordings, Ian got back to writing songs. Ian sung and played every instrument on the cassettes solo, recording them in his "spare bedroom" out of necessity because he had neither a record deal nor a band in place. Eventually, the recordings had the opportunity for additional production, and a small independent record company called Ghetto ordered a few hundred copies of "Pure" through Rough Trade. Under the moniker "Lightning Seeds," the fictitious band he had imagined writing his songs for in the hopes that it would actually exist, "Pure" was made public.

With the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Broudie recently gave a solo concert that featured a selection of his songs and some of his favorite creations. Broudie was supported by guest guitarists Sean Payne, Nick Power, Bill RyderJones, Martyn Campbell and Riley Broudie. Guest vocalists James Skelly, Terry Hall, Ian McCulloch, and Miles Kane joined Broudie.
