Pakistan's Lahore is home to Nazim Khan, better known as James Caan. He went to London's Brick Lane with his family when he was two years old, when his father opened a leather jacket manufacturing business. Caan made the decision not to accept this post, even though his family had intended him to take over this firm after graduating from high school.
Even though they didn't communicate for a long time following Caan's choice to leave the family company, Caan believes that his father greatly influenced his spirit of entrepreneurship. At the age of sixteen, he dropped out of school and his family's house, living off of his door-to-door salesperson business.
Caan was a talented salesman, but the amount of travel required for this profession intimidated him. He aggressively sought office-based work and was hired by the Grand Metropolitan conglomerate shortly after.
Caan went on to work in a variety of positions, most of them in recruiting firms. In the early 1980s, he and his future wife Aisha opened a store that quickly became popular and took in around $12,000 a month. He thought that launching his own firm was the best course of action, even with this company's success, so he set out to accomplish that.
Caan has done a lot of work for the Children in Need charity, participating in TV programs to collect money and helping to build an after-school center for kids and teenagers. He traveled to Kenya as part of a Sport Relief program.
Caan established the James Caan Foundation, his own nonprofit. Originally established to aid impoverished communities in Pakistan, the organization today collaborates with a large number of other nonprofits to support those in need throughout several nations.
