Vocalist Nick Zander included a brief comment with the announcement of Equipment's new EP Miracle on Bandcamp, stating, "These were very spur of the moment songs that we basically just finished recording." Everything about this album has a terrific sense of spontaneity, from the almost too-quick pick scratches halfway through "Monkey Ball Gatekeeper (Cinnamon)" to the guitar jumble on "Finstacore" to the witch's hour vibes of "Magic." This looseness only works with a musically tight group like Equipment, and in addition to the songs' obvious energy, each member of Equipment is playing off-key here, giving Miracle a lot of power.
The first track, "Monkey Ball Gatekeeper (Cinnamon)," starts out with an appropriately sweet and upbeat tune over an acoustic guitar. Layers of electric instruments gradually come in, and the additional guitars are added so gently that you might miss a couple of the riffs mixed in with everything else.
"Finstacore," which sounds like a snotty pop punk rager and an earnest indie rocker at the same time, comes next. "Finstacore," which has too many shimmering and winding riffs to count, is undoubtedly one for the guitar aficionados, echoing the mix of acoustic and electric guitars from the EP opener. However, Equipment doesn't trip over the riffs or let them to overshadow the songs that would still sound fantastic, just like on the rest of the EP..
