Jason Furman is an American economist and professor at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and was previously the 28th Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Barack Obama. Prior to his role as chair of the CEA, Furman has been Deputy Director of the National Economic Council. Furman graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in social studies, an M.A. in government, and a Ph.D. in economics. He also graduated from London School of Economics with an M.Sc. Furman started his career being hired by Joseph Stiglitz to serve as a staff economist for the Council of Economic Advisers for a year. He then worked with Stiglitz again at World Bank before going on to join the National Economic Council as a Special Assistant to President Clinton. He also was the Director of Economic Policy for the Kerry presidential campaign and from there, joined the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Furman has been a Visiting Scholar at New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and has also taught as a visiting lecturer at Columbia and Yale Universities..
