Raam was born in the Iranian coastal city of Bushehr and, at an early age, relocated with his family to Eugene on the U.S. West Coast. Raam lived in Tehran as a teenager and would return to Iran in the 1990s. Later, in 1998, he moved to Canada. After returning to Iran a few years later, he founded Hypernova, the first rock band to be released.
Hypernova cleared the path for a new generation of ambitious underground Iranian artists by exposing a different side of the axis of evil and garnering a lot of support from the world press. Hypernova performed at the TED conference-sponsored Pangea Day Festival and toured North America in support of the Goth legends the Sisters of Mercy.
