Starring on Fox's Living Single as Overton Wakefield Jones, John Henton has definitely developed quite a loyal following among the shows many fans. Running for five seasons, this ensemble cast including Queen Latifah and Kim Fields, was the perfect forum for this comedian-turned-television star. And much to the delight of his fans, Henton returned to the stage after almost a year hiatus, with a headlining stand-up routine at the Rivera Hotel in Las Vegas. Born and raised in Cleveland, John Henton had never entertained the thought of a career in comedy. In 1982, working during the day and studying computer science at night, John was urged by a co-worker to try his jokes at a local amatuer night. By his second night, John had won the amateur night contest and began doing standup part time. John made the move to Los Angeles in 1985 and by 1988 had started his stand-up career full time. After taking his comedy on the road for years and winning the 1991 Johnny Walker National Comedy Search, John was spotted by a Tonight Show" talent scout who booked him for a performance on the show. John was called over to take a seat on the couch where Johnny asked him if he had an agent. To John's reply of no, Johnnny mugged, "Well you will after tonight." It was this performance which John says gave his career a "serious jumpstart." Since then John has made appearances on The Arsenio Hall Show and Bob Hope's Young Comedian's Special, as well as returned to The Tonight Show.
