He studied at the University of Vermont and from there was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. He played with them for a while and went on to also play for the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. When he was with the Flyers, he became the very first American-born player to score fifty goals in three consecutive NHL seasons. He did this while playing on the Legion of Doom line. During his time with the Montreal Canadiens they won the Stanley Cup. LeClair has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Vermont Sports Hall of Fame, and the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame.
